Recently I was thinking about what impresses me in life and I noticed that the animals in this ranking are on very high on the list. So far on this blog they were very rare guests (except Michałowski’s horses) and it’s time to change that. This is thanks to Albrecht Dürer, a really prolific artist who had created many works featuring various animals. It took a while to find appropriate images but it reminded me about the other great website about art — WikiArt.
Albrecht Dürer was a German artist living at the turn of 15th and 16th centuries (a significant part of his work was done in the 16th century). His art represented the northern renaissance. His interests were many, in graphic arts however, he is mostly known for making substantial contributions to the development of the woodcuting and the chalcography techniques. He also has written theoretical works, for example the Four Books on Human Proportion. He was born and died in Nuremberg, where his grave can be visited today. He left behind about 80 oil paintings, 100 chalcographies and etchings, 250 woodworks and 1000 drawings (including watercolors).
Polecam wejść w linki z Google Art Project, gdyż możliwość powiększenia jest tam w przypadku tych dzieł baaaaaaardzo duża i można obejrzeć (w przypadku zająca) każdy włosek sierści. Warto też zwrócić uwagę na sygnaturę Dürera, widoczną na kilku obrazkach!
I hope you’ll enjoy these animals like me :) As you can see, they’re really diverse and not of all of them seem alive. I recommend to click links from the Google Art Project, as these allow you to zoom in closely and see (e.g. in case of the hare) every strand of fur. It is also worth it to pay attention to Dürer’s signature, visible on some pictures.
